OpenClaw is an open-source AI gateway that runs on your own machine. It lets you use any open-source language model (Llama, Mistral, Phi, etc.) locally. Your conversations never leave your network.

Quick Setup
Install OpenClaw
Follow the instructions at docs.openclaw.ai to install the OpenClaw gateway on your Mac, PC, or server.
Generate a QR Code
Open Terminal and run:
openclaw qrThis displays a QR code with your gateway's connection details.
Scan in Chitin
Open Chitin Avatar or Chitin Phone → Settings → OpenClaw → Scan QR Code. Point your camera at the QR code. The app connects automatically.
Start Talking
That's it. Your companion is now powered by your own AI. Conversations stay on your local network.
Tips for Best Performance
- Use a fast model (7B-14B parameter models respond faster than 70B+)
- Keep your gateway machine wired to your router (WiFi adds latency)
- Close other GPU-intensive applications while using Chitin
- Configure your agent with a concise system prompt — shorter prompts = faster first token
- Llama 3.1 8B or 3.2 3B — fast, good quality
- Mistral 7B — excellent for conversation
- Phi-3 Mini — very fast on Apple Silicon
